Project Art Together launched in 2017 as a 501c3 in Oakland, California to provide welcoming creative spaces for refugees, to support local refugee artists, and to raise awareness of refugee communities with the broader public. As a nascent nonprofit and as part of the ongoing development of organizational planning, the Executive Director was interested in researching modes of revenue outside of donations and grants and gaining insight into the various affinity networks the organization might connect to with its services. For this two-semester project, a Management Studio student team worked with Executive Director of Art Together on strategy development in the areas of building a governance framework, affinity and market research, researching possible programming and curriculum, and researching approaches to evaluation and impact narratives. The project proved to be an excellent opportunity for the student team to learn and practice “start- up” nonprofit research and planning skills and for Art Together to gain insight useful to their future planning and vision. |
