Project Partner Testimonials
“The success of the New Monuments for New Cities exhibit at The 606, an inaugural project of the High Line Network Joint Art Initiative, would not have been possible without Kate Dumbleton and the SAIC grad students. The students thoughtfully designed the exhibit with the 25 artists and 4 contributing partners/cities in mind. In addition to curating the exhibit, they expanded the scope of their work and helped engage visitors by designing a pop-up program alongside the entire trail. We would like to express our deepest gratitude for their dedication to the project!”
Vivian Garcia, Manager of The 606, Chicago Park District "I have had the pleasure of working with Kate Dumbleton and her students on four major exhibitions; Shawn Decker: Prairie, Jan Tichy: aroundcenter, The Wall of Respect: Vestiges, Shards and the Legacy of Black power and Tuned Mass: Jeff Carter, Faheem Majeed and Susan Giles.
The students’ creative and mindful programming not only strengthens visitor engagement, it inspires me as a Curator and breathes contemporary practice to life. Dedication to detail and inquiry are always at the forefront of their work. The opportunity to work on such high profile exhibition is rare and one valued by both sides. The high quality of the work matches the depth of the content." Greg Lunceford, Curator of Exhibitions, Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs "SAIC students' work with each other and with project stakeholders was collaborative, professional, attentive to detail, and expressed diligence and expertise that have indispensably enhanced our capacity to share Mark Gilbert’s unique and important work at the intersection of art and health care with local, national, and international audiences. We’ve been lucky and proud to work with such a smart, devoted team. We continue to learn from these students' insights and look forward to future collaborations with new groups of SAIC students."

"The Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange (CCRx) was incubated by a team of smart, creative, resourceful SAIC grad students in SAIC's Arts Administration program. They enthusiastically tackled every aspect of a start-up--researching business models, communication strategies, fiscal sponsorship, 501c3 applications, SWOT, local and national best practices and various options for pop-ups. They made our first website and contacted foundations to learn about funding feasibility. We visited several kindred organizations and held an event that informed our outreach and programming strategy and prepared for our main kick-off later that year. CCRx benefited from the mix of experience and backgrounds of the team, and we all learned a lot from the guest presenters and the dialogue and experiments of the entire class and all its projects. And we were thrilled to continue to work with several of the group for multiple semesters. We achieved many milestones thanks to this class that really set us up for success."
Barbara Koenen, Founder Chicago Reuse Exchange "Working with the SAIC graduate students in the Management Studio class provided the Chicago Cultural Alliance with integral consultation and innovative energy and ideas to our programmatic process of developing the Inherit Chicago Festival. We were so impressed with the caliber of professionalism and knowledge, we actively engaged one student as a paid apprentice. It was a fantastic experience that provided real value to our organization and to the students."
Emily Reussweig, Executive Director, Chicago Cultural Alliance "As an artist and a researcher exploring ways to integrate the arts in all their forms into medicine and medical education, I was delighted to have the opportunity to work with students from an arts background, enabling them to also hopefully benefit from the interdisciplinary nature of the project. I learned so much from the student group as they considered making their selection of works to be included final exhibition. Moreover, the ideas and imagination they brought to the table when creating methods of recording and evaluating audience response will be vital to the exhibits dissemination and assessment."
Mark Gilbert, Artist "I must say, the creativity and thoughtfulness shown by each of you throughout this program development process has been amazing. I cannot recall a time working with a more amazing group of arts and culture professionals! And the resiliency each of you have demonstrated in the (somewhat) chaotic pivot during this pandemic has been truly impressive."
