The Cultural Asset Mapping Program or C.A.M.P. is part of a larger initiative led by the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and the League of Chicago Theatres with additional support from Enrich Chicago to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the performing arts and related cultural forms on the South Side and West Side of Chicago. CAMP also grew out of the Re:Center Initiative, a long-term visioning process for all 15 cultural centers in Chicago Park District's network (2015-2020). The long-term goal of this project is to better support performing arts, cultural production, and activities in these neighborhoods. CAMP achieves this through two instruments - the Neighborhood Storyteller survey and Chicago Creatives Network survey - that sync in real-time onto a publicly accessible, interactive virtual hub.
The Management Studio team involved in this project created a curatorial plan for gathering, editing, and inputting stories of community participants. C.A.M.P. used a survey to gather Neighborhood Stories by and for anyone who wishes to participate. Management Studio worked with the project to help think creatively about ways to identify and intentionally engage potential/new participants and design a self-managed story collecting system. During the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters, the Management Studio team updated two surveys and created "In Focus: Chicago's Storytellers". The team also organized "A Performing City: Stories from Chicago's performers and formative performances."
